Westminster Pie
A really fun day out for the South West Media family was enjoyed by all at ‘Made in the South West’, an event put on by South West Screen to highlight all the good work that the region does to members of parliament.
The Bristol crew all traveled down to Westminster by coach and there was palpable excitement within the vehicle as we drew near.
After going through the tight security checks of the House of Commons (during which we had to be on our best behaviour) we made it inside and proceeded to the Westminster marquee, and the networking began!
The day was not just to impress MPs, it was a great chance to talk to our contemporaries in the region and find out what’s going on.
There were some presentations by various MPs who acknowledged that the South West has produced some stunning work (Aardman Animations and BBC’s Natural History Departement were the obvious examples). The most notable of these was Andy Burnham, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, and Ben Bradshaw, Minister for the South West. Also Mike Bailey, star of Channel 4′s Skins got up and made some witty remarks, and South West Screen’s chief executive Caroline Nordbury thanked everyone for helping to build the region’s reputation (Mobile Pie got a much appreciated ‘shout-out’ here!)
Before we knew it we were back on the coach again after what I found to be a bit of a surreal but fascinating day. Thanks to everyone who organised!
