Society Of Editors

November 13th, 2008 by Richard Wilson

Mobile Pie and Thought Den took advantage of a great opportunity this week to show off their pervasive Happy Packages project at the Society of Editors event at @Bristol. In Attendance were key national figures from media and industry sectors.

We didn’t want to confuse people by handing out iPhones with prototype versions of the project, instead we went for something more simple and interactive. As we were in attendance with some big names from the national press we went with a topical theme, and asked the guests to take either Barack Obama or Sarah Palin on a Happy Packages Trail around the U.K. (McCain missed out i’m afraid!)

Using a board, some image cutouts, string, and lots of pins, participants could choose a location for one of the American visitors and also leave a message for them when they got there. The different locations chosen followed on from one another in a trail connected by string.

The goal of this exercise was to make people get the idea of location based content inside their heads, and remember the name Happy Packages! Lots of people got involved in the spirit of things, and our favourite entry was that of BBC’s Andrew Marr, who informed the President Elect that Britain had in fact had a black leader in Roman times (which we subsequently checked out, and he is, of course, right)…
