Oh, My Word! 2 is the best thing to happen to videogaming since Nolan Bushnell walked in to a San Francisco bar with Pong, however would you believe some people have to be told how it is? It’s true.

Luckily, the internet is full of professionals who like to offer critical insight and they’re always on hand to let the world know how good (or bad) things are. So here is, warts and all, a round up of the critical reception received by our latest magnum opus:

Oh, My Word! 2 might fly under the radar of many gamers. A lack of guns, explosions and fancy 3D graphics might immediately write the game off for many, but these people were never the game’s target demographic. Saying this, the game certainly has wide appeal, and will surprise many who assumed beforehand that it wouldn’t be their cup of tea (like my good self). Give the game an inch however, and it’ll steal a mile; Oh, My Word! 2 is deceptively good fun. Word-puzzle fans shouldn’t think twice about snapping this up.

7/10

App Gamer review

Word game aficionados have cause to celebrate because Oh, My Word! 2 is now out for the iPhone and iPod touch… All in all, Mobile Pie does an extremely great job by coming up with a creative new take on a crowded genre that not only packs hours of diversion but is great to play anytime and anywhere!

4.75/5

App-reciation Reviews review

The result is a game that feels more like an update that rounds out a first attempt than a true sequel which expands the concept. Oh, My Word! 2 is a pleasant experience for word fiends, then, but more SOLID than SUPER.

6/10

Pocket Gamer review

Reviews are still coming in (especially on the App Store page), but generally the impression is very positive! What did you think? Let us know in the comments.

Sit down, sit down! Don’t worry, there is no physical threat: This rather contrived metaphor is simply a roundabout way of announcing that our beloved Oh, My Word! 2 is under development for Google’s Android mobile phone platform.

It will be very similar its upcoming and totally chic iPhone twin, featuring the new game modes (Survival and Time Attack alongside Classic), bigger word list, sassy new purple design and new easy option.

We’re currently excitedly testing the very first build on our spanking new T-Mobile Pulse which we picked up today.

Watch this space for more details on it’s development and impending release date.

We might even be announcing something about other platforms too in the not so distant future…

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Bristol, UK, 13th October 2009 – Tap ‘n’ Slide and B-Boy Brawl developers Mobile Pie today announced a sequel to their acclaimed iPhone and iPod touch word puzzler, Oh, My Word!

Oh, My Word! 2 follows on from the brain-box bendingly simple yet highly-addictive original, with Time Attack and Survival featuring alongside the Classic mode. The sequel also brings with it integration with the Plus+ Network.

Mobile Pie’s Creative Producer Will Luton said:

“Oh, My Word! 2 has been an absolute labour of love for us, we’ve enjoyed every minute of creating and playing this sequel and having the Plus+ Network is a real honor.”

The Plus+ Network is a social play service free to players that harnesses the iPhone OS 3.0 technology and enables players to create a persistent profile, challenge friends via social channels, compete for leaderboard glory, participate in game events and discover new games.

“We’ve built upon the original concept with Plus+ in mind, but it was a match made in heaven anyway because it straight away adds an entirely new competitive level to the fun”, said Luton.

Oh, My Word! 2 will be available at the nominal price of 59p / 99c or for free as an stripped down version featuring only the Classic game mode (Oh, My Word! 2 Free).

It is expected that OMW!2 will be released early November, however Mobile Pie are offering ad hoc preview version to selected media partners. Please contact Mobile Pie for further details.

As you’ll recall we mentioned a little while back that things are hotting up in The Oven with a fantastic analogy to John Travolta’s infamous Grease performance. Well, don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten Oh, My Word! We’re bashing away at a really, really big update which will bring the app up to version 2.0.

It will include two new game modes and an easier version of the classic game, as well as global leaderboards and something really, really exciting that I can’t legally say about just yet (but trust me, it is awesome)!

Oh, My Word! version 2.0 on its way

From our design specification (which is subject to change):

Classic
As per the v1.1 for Normal difficulty, however introduces Easy difficulty where each round and subsequent secret word within it a randomly selected higher and lower bounding word are present.

Survival
In this mode their exists a clock which starts at 120 seconds and counts down, when it reaches zero the game is over and the score from that round is the number of correct secret words guessed.

- For each correct word guessed the player receives a 2 seconds bonus.

- For each incorrect word (one which does not exist or is higher or lower than the pre-existing bounding words) the player is penalised 10 seconds.

- When the player correctly guesses a secret word they receive a 30 second bonus.

- If the player leaves and returns to the game (to take a call for example) then they will receive a 15 second penalty. This is to limit cheating.

When the time is up the secret word is revealed and the player’s top score is updated, if necessary, and added to the global leaderboard.

Time Attack
This is as per normal difficultly Classic mode, however, instead the number of guesses a player can take is unlimited. The player, however, is required to guess five secret words against the clock. The quicker the time the better.

If the player leaves and returns to the game (to take a call for example) then they will receive a 15 second penalty. This is to limit cheating.

When the player has guessed all five words the round is over and the player’s top time is updated, if necessary, and added to the global leaderboard.

iPhone word nerds can’t get enough of our latest App Store offering Oh, My Word! as can be seen by its meteoric rise through both the free and paid Games > Word chart, where both versions now sit within the top 50 of their respective categories!

And what’s more, the reviews are starting to roll in and are looking very positive indeed, Pocket Gamer called it:

“A prettier and more interesting version of Hangman.”

So, feeling boyant, we happily announce that Oh, My Word! and Oh, My Word! Free will recieve version 1.1 updates by the end of the week. It will mainly address some small bugs and add sound, but future updates will likely also include social network integration, a revamped scoring system and a global leaderboard.
